All We Want Is More: The Tobias Wong Project
Opens November 17, 2022
Born and raised in Vancouver, artist Tobias Wong (b. 1974) defied categorization and took the art world by storm before his untimely death in 2010. The New York Times called Wong “the enfant terrible of the design world”, and in his short but prolific career, he defied the boundaries of conceptual art, performance, and product design. Constantly questioning the meaning we assign to objects in our lives, Wong’s work would alter pieces of famous designers, tweak objects to give them new meaning, and appropriate brand imagery—all to brilliant effect. The Vancouver Art Gallery

It’s wise to set aside a few hours to walk through Downtown Vancouver’s largest art gallery; the multi-floored VAG always has a lot on the go. This season, local artist Marie Khouri takes over the gallery’s first-floor rotunda with her I Love exhibition of curvilinear hand-carved sculptures; Jin-Me Yoon’s About Time explores the Korean diasporic experience; and a not-to-be-missed Spotlight collaboration features KC Hall, whose work explores the tensions between Indigenous traditions and urban digital world.
Honourable Mention - Fairmont Pacific Rim
In collaboration with Equinox Gallery, The Pacific Gallery at Fairmont Pacific Rim is showing some stunning installation, video, and photography work by artist Adad Hannah. Spot three works on PacRim lobby’s main floor, inspired by the 1862 painting Ophelia, then visit the second floor for a large-scale installation based on Picasso’s Guernica.
