The Award-Winning 2018 CheckMate Little Pawn Chardonnay

The first, from CheckMate Artisanal Winery in the Okanagan Valley: the opportunity to purchase bottles of their award-winning 2018 CheckMate Little Pawn Chardonnay. This one-of-a-kind vintage simply cannot be found in retail stores or restaurants and was recently awarded a perfect 100-point score by revered Canadian wine critic John Schreiner, making it the most awarded and sought after wine in its class. (Let that sink in for a moment...) In his glowing review, Schreiner said: "To my palate, this has emerged as the finest chardonnay in the CheckMate portfolio: simply polished perfection... The finish does not want to quit." Can’t argue with that.
This CheckMate Little Pawn Chardonnay vintage was made from grapes grown from the Black Sage Bench’s Jagged Rock Vineyard and aged for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels by winemaker Phil McGahan. The vibrant Chardonnay has hints of peach, rose petal, jasmine, elderflower, green tea and sandalwood. “Flavours of white peach excite the senses with a citrus line extending through the palate,” says McGahan, “complexed by herbal, fennel and sea salt notes."
This vintage is currently only offered to CheckMate Wine Club Members and Mercedes-Benz Lifestyle subscribers, while quantities last, for $110 per bottle. If you choose to stock your cellar with this selection, it will age beautifully for 12 years from the vintage date.

The Limited-Release 2016 Martin’s Lane Simes Vineyard Pinot Noir

If you’re more of a red wine aficionado, this Martin’s Lane Winery pinot noir is an excellent go-to. With only 15 cases available, this vintage received top scores in all of Canada from esteemed critic Mark Squire’s in Robert Parker’sThe Wine Advocate. "The combination of fruit, flavour, freshness and structure made this a good contender for best of the bunch,” he wrote. “This should age well."
