Looking Back on 2022 with Mercedes-Benz.
January 02 2023, Mercedes-Benz Vancouver

After two long years of uncertainties and postponed events, Mercedes-Benz took 2022 by storm with record-shattering sales of vintage cars to the launches of groundbreaking models and concepts. 2022 was a busy year for the industry and beyond.
As we wrap up 2022 and move into 2023, we’d like to highlight some of our favourite moments throughout the year.
Record-Breaking Vintage Sale
In a record-shattering $184 million EUR sale that made global headlines, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé found a new home in 2022. Sold to an undisclosed collector, the 300 SLR was one of only two prototypes developed, previously owned by Mercedes-Benz for decades since its production. The sale price was more than double the previous record of around $90 million for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.
Designed for racing, the Uhlenhaut Coupé boasted a top speed of 290 km/h, making it one of the fastest cars in the world at the time. It perfectly showcased the technologies and aesthetics of the mid-1950s, along with the signature Mercedes-Benz gullwing doors of the era.
Mercedes-Benz has used the proceeds from this sale to establish a global scholarship initiative called The Mercedes-Benz Fund. The fund invites innovation for the development of technologies that support decarbonization and resource preservation, encouraging a new generation to follow in the footsteps of Rudolf Uhlenhaut, the creator, name sake and chief engineer of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé.

Taking Home The Championship
Formula 1 fans saw George Russell join the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team alongside Lewis Hamilton in 2022. A talented addition to the team, Russell has been making waves in rookie and junior campaigns for the past decade, scoring an array of victories and podium appearances throughout his journey.
We’re proud to congratulate Russell on winning the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix, and can’t wait to see what he continues to bring to the world of motorsport in 2023.
Developing Ground-Breaking Concepts
Every year, the line between science fiction and reality becomes a little more blurry, as innovation in the automotive industry continues to bloom. With the impending release of Avatar: The Way Of The Water towards the end of 2022, the implementation of brain-computer interfaces (BCI) has been brought to the forefront of automotive discourse.
Although it seems like a distant technology, BCI applications are already being implemented as a viable option for people with physical disabilities, such as missing limbs. Mercedes-Benz has created the concept of VISION AVTR, a futuristic sedan which allows drivers to communicate with the car’s interface using their mind.
Originally presented at the 2020 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, the concept has continued to grow and develop over the past couple of years.
Unveiling The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Haute Voiture
In the closing moment of the year, Mercedes-Benz revealed the ultimate collectible, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Haute Voiture, a showcase of how far the brand has come, with unparalleled craftsmanship, quality materials and exquisite design that blurs the line between auto and art.
With only 150 in production, the exclusivity of the Haute Couture-inspired S 680 adds to its elegance and appeal to collectors. Highly-coveted and sought after, the Haute Voiture S 680 represents the pinnacle of the luxury automobile industry, setting a new standard for future luxury vehicles.
