Savour Fall With These Farm & Garden Events.
September 12 2024,
The final days of summer and early days of autumn are fleeting—soak them up with some plans that get you outside. Think fresh flower bouquet-making, apple festivals, and more fun for the whole family.
Athiana Acres - Richmond
Bring a friend to revel in the blooms of autumn with a floral pumpkin centerpiece-making class (October 6th and 10th). In the middle of Athiana Acres’ beautiful 30-acre regenerative organic farm, pick your own flowers direct from the field, enjoy sustainable snacks aplenty—The Juice Truck fresh-pressed juices, To Live For vegan baked goods.
Greendale Acres - Chilliwack
This popular farm is all about the family-friendly activities; there are tractor and hay rides, lots of farm animals for kiddos to meet, a huge corn maze and swings, slides and sandpits galore for the toddlers in your life. As for special events, bring along the extended family for upcoming Grandparents’ Day (Sept. 27) or head out to their 19+ Fireside Music Night (Sept. 28), where you can book a firepit for 6–8 friends and order drinks and snacks while taking in the wholesome splendour of live music on the farm.
VanDusen Garden - Vancouver
This walkable 55-acre natural oasis in the heart of the city makes for a brilliant outdoor excursion any day (and in any season), but especially when one of their special events is taking place. Pre-register for a Guided Birding Tour (there’s one coming up Sept. 22), check out the Annual Mushroom Show, presented by the Vancouver Mycological Society (Oct. 12), or mark your calendar for Harvest Days (weekends from Sept. 28 to Oct. 20) when live music, food trucks, and pumpkin-y displays aplenty take over the garden for the fall harvest season.
UBC Botanical Garden Apple Festival - Vancouver
The 33rd Annual Apple Festival (Oct. 19 and 20) is the horticultural event of the season at UBC. This two-day affair, which takes place at the UBC Botanical Garden, sells out early every year and tickets are already on sale, so move fast if interested. The hugely popular Apple Tasting Tents are the main attraction—where you can learn about and taste rare varieties—but it’s outdoor fun for the whole family with a huge roster of outdoor live music performers. Plan to leave with a few big bags of delicious apples to take you into the fall. If you can’t make it to the apple fest, be sure to visit the Botanical Garden another time or the UBC Nitobe Memorial Garden, considered one of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan.
