The All-New EQS is Here.
June 27 2022, Mercedes-Benz Vancouver
The much-anticipated, all-electric MY22 EQS Luxury Sedan has arrived in Vancouver. This is the first vehicle from the Mercedes-EQ sub-brand to be offered in Canada...and it’s a showstopper.
What to Expect
We all know that electric vehicles represent the future of luxury driving. The latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz fleet is nothing less than a futuristic tour de force. In fact, aerodynamicists worked closely with designers to make this EQS the most aerodynamic series-built vehicle in the world.
The EQS is revolutionary in so many ways, although its entirely digital dashboard could be the most opulent component: the striking MBUX hyperscreen is an excellent example of digital-analogue design fusion. But more on that later.
When envisioning the look of this all-electric vehicle, Mercedes designers worked on an entirely new shape to define a unique generation of luxury car: a new kind of “one-bow” proportion. This architecture gives a beautiful and seamless flow to the car, not unlike a high-speed bullet train. Speaking of bullets, in terms of power, this luxury sedan has got you covered—it’s powered by two electric motors, one at each axle, allowing the EQS 580 4MATIC to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 4.3 seconds.
Inside, a substantially roomy interior is designed with eco-friendly materials at every turn, including native maple trim from responsibly-managed German forests, DINAMICA microfiber sourced from recycled bottles, and a roof liner developed from recycled ocean plastic. (In other green news, the EQS is a milestone of Mercedes-Benz’s plan to achieve a carbon neutral new-car fleet, and this debut will also boast a new Green Charging feature.)
As with any Mercedes-Benz, the smallest elements matter; delightful details abound here, too. When passengers look up, they’ll see that the entire dashboard is capable of displaying digital content. A 360-degree pinstripe lightband encircles the car, leading from the front-facing new DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, all the way back to the 229 illuminated stars that accentuate the tail.
High-Tech, High-Class
The new EQS is a statement car from start to finish, and two qualities in particular define this new model: the increased cell energy density of the battery, and the in-house-designed software of its energy management system. The largest battery of the EQS has usable energy content of 108 kWh. (If you’re interested in how that breaks down: this package of hardware and software can get you up to 770 km of electric range WLTP.) The Mercedes me Charge charging network is also one of the world’s largest, making it that much easier to get where you need to go.
Step inside this car, and you’ll notice more interior space than any other electric luxury sedan out there. The next component that will grab your attention is the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) Hyperscreen, which only adds to the high-tech appeal. The digital infotainment addition spans 56 inches of dashboard, and is housed within a curved glass panel that is both scratch-resistant and treated with an aluminum-silicate coating for optimal durability. Behind the scenes is cutting-edge technology: it has eight CPU cores backed by 24GB of RAM, and 46.4GB per second memory bandwidth.
While the technology may sound intimidating, it is quite the opposite. Mercedes-Benz engineers designed the user interface to be highly intuitive, always calculating the most efficient route, taking into account variables like weather and traffic stops. By incorporating artificial intelligence, the system can even repeat certain user habits, such as remembering a GPS location when certain tools are utilized (for instance, a suspension-lift feature) and prompting for that function each time that location is reached again. Naturally, the MBUX Hyperscreen also happens to be fun for the whole family, with passenger personalization allowing up to seven customized profiles for varying moods and preferences.
As far as all-electric luxury sedans go, there’s truly nothing like the all-new MY22 EQS Luxury Sedan.
