The Best Dog-Friendly Patios in Vancouver.
May 05 2024, Mercedes-Benz Vancouver
Finally—patio season is upon us again. Your furry friends want to get outside as much as you do, so the next time you head out to eat, BYOP (pup, that is) to one of these dog-friendly Vancouver patios. Here are some of our favourites.
False Creek
Tap & Barrel
All five Tap & Barrel locations—Olympic Village, Convention Centre, the Shipyards, South Surrey, and Bridges —have sprawling patios and what feels like a million beers on tap. Dogs are allowed to be tied up near their owners on a rope at the perimeter of the patio. Instagram @tapandbarrel
The Wicklow
There’s a wonderful neighbourhood-y vibe at this laid-back patio. The kitchen serves up classic pub meals and to-die-for sunset views for you and your pooch. Instagram @wicklowpub
Mahoney’s Tavern
Another favourite stop on the False Creek seawall, you’d be well-advised to order a Guinness on this large, umbrella-d patio, which is truly one of the city’s best. Instagram @mahoneystavern
Yaletown
Provence Marinaside
Refined Mediterranean fare, a fabulously long wine list, and a stunning marina view? We’ll take it. Currently dogs can be tied up street-side when you’re seated outdoors, but when the bigger patio opens (sunny weekends/summer months), pups can be right at your feet. Instagram @provencemarinaside
Capo & The Spritz
Located in the OPUS Hotel, this eatery has pizza and pasta that tastes just like Italy in the heart of YVR. (The Autostrada team has a hand in it, so no wonder it’s good.) Instagram @capoandspritz
Granville Island
Alimentaria Mexicana
Authentic fare abounds at this spot, which calls itself “an experiential and immersive journey into the heart of Mexico” with good reason. The patio is walk-in only, but it’s worth the wait. Order the grilled cactus with halloumi. Instagram @alimentariamexicana
Popina
There’s plenty of outdoor seating surrounding this casual shipping-container restaurant, located on the island’s ferry dock, where dogs are not only welcomed, but featured on their social media. Instagram @popinacanteen
Beaucoup Bakery
Steps away from Granville Island, this patisserie is one of the city’s finest coffee and croissant stops. Snag a spot on the little patio early—treats sell out fast. Instagram @beaucoupbakery
East Vancouver
Main St. Brewing Company
Dogs are allowed in the tasting room! To accompany your delicious Main St. brew, Bodhi’s kitchen is now serving up comfort food, any time after noon. Try the famous Sunday Smashburger. Instagram @mainstreetbeer
Dachi
This Hastings-Sunrise resto-bar is known for its cocktails, wines and sake, and ever-changing seasonal menu of tasty snacks. Think house-made pickles, beef heart tartare, sauteed oyster mushrooms, and the like. Instagram @dachivancouver
R&B Brewery
Go for the beer, stay for the pizza. With a sunny picnic bench patio set up on the street, and an additional shaded patio lining the restaurant, you’ve got options. Don’t forget to fill your growler when you leave. Instagram @rbbrewing
North Vancouver
Wildeye Brewing
A wildly popular spot to bring your pups and bikes, Wildeye Brewing is a local gem. A regular stop for those doing brewery bike tours, Wildeye’s patio is a great place to stop for a drink and a few shareable bites for you and your dogs. Instagram @wildeyebrewing
Anatoli Souvlaki
From the same crew that brought you The Greek by Anatoli comes North Van’s counterpart, a tasty dining experience with a pet-friendly outdoor perch. The dog-friendly patio, located a bit further away from the restaurant itself, opens in May. Instagram @thegreekbyanatoli
Honourable Mention: Port Moody
If you’re brewery-hopping around PoMo, you’ll find that many of the breweries allow pups on patios, but Parkside Brewery may be the dog-friendliest of all: they have an Instagram account dedicated to our furry friends! @barksidebrewery
