Rooted in Swiss sensibility, Marrimor designs are as grounded and functional as they are musing and playful. They strike a balance we didn’t know we craved, until we came across it.
Meet Marrimor
Marrimor Designs was founded by Tanja Hinder. Her sharp and skilled eye for interiors make her a standout with designs that turn heads and receive international praise. Originally from Switzerland, she now makes her home (and the homes of her clients) in Vancouver, BC.
Peers, colleagues, and clients aren’t the only ones enchanted by Tanja’s precise and clever style. In 2011, Western Living featured Tanja as a designer to watch, and recently the publication nominated her for designer of the year.
Marrimor Interior Design
Marrimor Interiors is Tanja’s full-force Vancouver studio specializing in residential renovations, residential and commercial new-builds, restaurant and hotel design, furniture and millwork design, area rugs, and custom project design. With support from her four-person, all-female team, Tanja has led Marrimor on projects that range from heritage homes to innovative new builds throughout BC.
The studio was founded on the idea that “a home should reflect the warmth of the people that live within it,” and it shows. Like a lens trying to focus on something previously unseen, they pull you in and make you take a step back, all at once. The company far exceeds its promise of making you feel at home when you’re at home.
If curiosity is getting the best of you, you’re in luck. Publications like Style At Home, Mi Casa, Domino, and House & Home have made it easy to look behind the curtain at some of Marrimor’s most notable work (and Vancouver’s most beautifully-designed homes).
Introducing: Marrimor Objects
With her background in furniture design, it comes as no surprise to us that Tanja has a passion for designing products-- a passion that led her to launch Marrimor Objects earlier this year alongside her co-conspirator, Lauren Bugliarisi.
Tanja and Lauren and the perfect design pair. Their process is wholly collaborative, an affectionate tug-of-war between minimalism and elaboration. The result of this ‘meeting of the design minds’ is a perfectly balanced line of pieces that both excite and belong.
Marrimor Objects surprise and delight. They’re coy in the way they blend materials and patterns, form and function-- walking us right to the line of what we expect to see and then pushing us to go one step further. They’re the kind of pieces you design an entire room around. (Or, better yet, the kind of pieces you ask Marrimor to design a room around.)
Toof & Toss
One piece, two purposes: Toof is a table and a poof, in one. Together, this side table adds personality and flair. When separated, its function expands to offer additional seating.
The Toss line of pillows are the colourful and textural pop that just about every room could use. Each style features an unconventional combination of materials that feel completely unexpected.
Inspiration That Extends Beyond Design
With a story as unique and impressive as the pieces it brought forth, we’re sure we won’t be the only ones watching what Tanja does next. We’re as inspired by her endeavours as we are by her designs, and we’re lucky to call her one of Vancouver’s own.
