The New EQS SUV: SUV Luxury, Redefined.
May 10 2022, Mercedes-Benz Vancouver
The all-new, all-electric 2023 EQS SUV from Mercedes-EQ takes the marque’s “Progressive Luxury” philosophy further than ever.
While Mercedes-Benz has long since established itself as the pinnacle of executive-class sedans—such as the S-Class that the recently-introduced EQS Sedan is based on—SUVs have continued to gain market share in recent years. In fact, 74% of all Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in Canada for 2021 were SUVs. It’s no coincidence then that the all-electric EQS SUV aims to incorporate the S-Class pedigree of the EQS Sedan and blend it with the practicality of an SUV. This is achieved by upping the EQS Sedan’s height by 20cm, adding a third row of seats, and offering enough cargo space for whatever adventures life has in store.
The added dimensions make the already breathtaking EQS interior even more impressive in the EQS SUV. Technology is abundant from the moment you open the door—the staggering 56” MBUX Hyperscreen stretches the entire length of the dashboard, while rear occupants each get 11.6” high-resolution displays to call their own. And whether your definition of luxury driving includes enjoying the otherworldly driving sounds of the Mercedes-Benz Sound Experience, interacting with the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant, or listening to your favourite playlist, the Burmester® 15-speaker surround sound system ensures an intimate and engaging listening experience no matter where you are seated in the vehicle.
Of course, that world-class technology extends to the EQS SUV’s safety features as well. A wealth of active and passive driving assistance systems come standard, such as Blind Spot Assist, Active Distance Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, and many more. In case of an imminent collision, the EQS SUV’s PRE-SAFE® system uses the split seconds before an accident to prepare—closing your side windows or sunroof automatically, moving the passenger seat into a safer position, and even reducing effects of collision noise on your hearing. EQS SUV cares about those around you, too: with no engine noise, the EQS SUV’s unique acoustic presence indicator is active at low speeds to help keep pedestrians aware.
That’s not to say onlookers will need the help. With the EQS SUV, you’re sure to be noticed! From the front, the Black Panel radiator grill and DIGITAL LIGHT light band separates the EQS line from other Mercedes-Benz models. From the side, onlookers are presented with a dynamic silhouette that exudes aerodynamic prowess despite being a seven-seat SUV, and features exclusive 22” light-alloy wheels, flush door handles, and chrome accents.
When the EQS SUV arrives at Canadian dealers in the second half of 2022, two models will be available: the 450 4Matic and the 580 4Matic. The 450 4Matic will produce 355 horsepower (265 kW), while the 580 4Matic will make 536 horsepower (400 kW). Both models will be available with a 108 kWh battery, allowing the EQS SUV to travel up to 600 km on a single full charge—making the EQS SUV the perfect companion, no matter the situation.
