Nearly 70 years of automotive heritage have culminated in the arrival of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL63, a new icon established in the automaker’s deeply planted roots of automotive class, style and high-performance engineering.
The iconic SL roadster, first introduced in the 1950s, has been synonymous with high-end sportiness, upscale leisure, and ingenuity that is always ahead of the curve. Now, Mercedes-AMG is reshaping that classic tale with the new SL63, a 2+2-seater that pays homage to the roadster legend while charismatically showcasing the modern craftsmanship and engineering of today.
The SL63 4MATIC+, arriving in Canada in late summer, is the first SL in history to be solely designed by Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, Germany. In addition to the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, specifically tuned for Mercedes-AMG models, the roadster will take to Canadian roads with the notorious Mercedes 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine, paired with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-gear transmission. This performance-oriented powertrain has an output of 577hp and 590 lb-ft of maximum torque. From takeoff, the SL63 will reach 0-100 km/h in a sheer 3.6 seconds.
In addition to the uniquely-tuned engineering of the Mercedes-AMG SL, the vehicle will come standard with active rear-axle steering, increasing maneuverability on demanding corners and urban streets. AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, with active anti-roll stabilization and six AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes, will provide a dynamic driving experience, adapting to a variety of road conditions.
The profile of the SL63 roadster unmistakably inherits the DNA of its predecessors, with its long hood, sloping windscreen, snappy overhangs and staunched rear end. Mercedes-AMG has thoughtfully designed the body using lightweight materials, sculpted for maxim aerodynamics and built upon the all-new lightweight composite aluminum chassis, providing the classic SL long wheelbase and maximum rigidity for a comfortable, responsive driving experience.
Stepping into the cockpit of the Mercedes-AMG SL, you’re reminded of the vehicle’s heritage defined by craftsman details and luxurious touchpoints, characterized by high-quality materials. The cabin is driver-focused, offering a sporty, low seating position and an adjustable-tilt 11.9-inch central display. Every informational panel can be customized to preference, with intuitive controls and driving features that further enhance the experience behind the wheel.
At the push of a button, the iconic soft top automatically stows within 15 seconds, providing the unmistakable feeling of freedom and boundlessness, while interior climate features like the AIRSCARF and zoned heating for the driver and front passenger seats create a leisured atmosphere on closed cabin days.
With its arrival in Canada in late 2022, the Mercedes-AMG SL63 Roadster ushers in a new era of personality, luxury and opportunity for the brand and auto-enthusiasts alike.
