As our city opens up, have some fun this spring by attending some of the many events taking place. From plays to art shows to night markets, here are five of our favourites happening this spring.
Cirque Du Soleil’s Alegría
Dates: On now until June 5
You’re in for a treat with Alegría, a Cirque du Soleil classic reimagined for a new generation, and performed under the big top at Concord Pacific Place. Be prepared to be absolutely dazzled by aerial artists balancing and bouncing on vaulting poles, flame-thrown batons being tossed effortlessly through the air, hula hoop and trampoline experts, and so much more.
Want More Cirque?
In a limited-time collaboration, the Shangri-La Vancouver is cooking up a Cirque du Soleil-inspired Afternoon Tea, to be delivered straight to your home (available until June 13). Decadent offerings include Big Top Profiteroles Gold Dusted Pistachio Mousse Cones and Purple Velvet Cassis Macarons. The hotel will also be running an Ultimate Cirque du Soleil Escape, which includes a one-night stay at the hotel, two VIP Cirque tickets, breakfast at Carlino’s restaurant, and more.

Ghosts of the Machine at The Polygon Gallery
Dates: June 3–August 14
Technology and ecology are focal points of the newest exhibition at North Vancouver’s Polygon, the on-the-water contemporary art gallery in the Shipyards District. In Ghosts of the Machine, visitors can expect immersive installations, digital aviators, and innovative videos by artists such as Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Skawennati, Santiago Tamayo Soler, Juliana Huxtable, and Cease Wyss (Skwxwú7mesh). With this fascinating exhibition, curator Elliot Ramsey challenges the escapist ethos of digital technology in order to highlight ways it can offer insights about our material, social, and environmental conditions.
Richmond Night Market
Dates: On now until October 10
Did you know that we have the largest night market in North America right in our own backyard? Indeed, the Richmond Night Market is a haven of food, fun, and entertainment on the 50-foot stage, and this year it’s back and bigger than ever. While there is shopping and entertainment galore, let’s be honest: most people go for the incredible range of delicious food. From deep-friend bao with ice cream to Japanese-style Katsu sandwiches, there is something for everyone.
Jurassic Quest
Dates: May 13–15
Touted as “the largest and most realistic dinosaur exhibit in North America”, Jurassic Quest is coming to the Vancouver Convention Centre for one weekend only. This family-friendly event will have photo ops galore, but rest assured—the adults will love it, too. Seek out the 15-metre-long megalodon, go on a few dinosaur rides, and take part in interactive science and art activities at this not-to-be-missed exhibition.
Broadway’s Hamilton
Dates: May 24–June 19
You’ve heard of it, but have you seen it yet? This may be your chance to see the Broadway musical Hamilton, the play about American founding father Alexander Hamilton that has won Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Awards, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. To see a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education—and be mesmerized by its hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway score—is, absolutely, a one-in-a-lifetime experience.
